2023 DRUM MAJOR AUDITIONS - Please read this page carefully and follow all directions! Applications must be submitted by 3/11/23
STEP 1
Download the score and of Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli by clicking the link provided. You will need to spend time learning the piece and prepare (off score) an audition that adheres to the following guidelines:
The audio track we will use for your audition is located at THIS LINK
You will prepare for a LIVE audition (conducting in front of a panel) and will need to conduct from memory measures 1-103 (2:40 of the piece).
When conducting, imagine that there is an ensemble sitting in front of you and try and show a level of communication in your gesture, eye contact and conducting.
KEEP IT CLEAR AND SIMPLE!! We will be impressed if your conducting is clear and accurate. Remember, we have 200+ bodies on the field that need to be able to see you clearly.
The audition will consist of the conducting (approx 3:00), tempo identification (see clarification in step 2), and a short interview. Each audition will take about 12 minutes total.

Interviews will happen in the band room on the 3rd floor of the FA building. Please be prepared for the following in your interview:

Short question and answer session about your ideas for leadership and Racer Band
Why you want to be Drum Major
Tempo identification!!! This is a big one. We will ask you during the interview to snap or clap certain tempos to show your relative sense of tempo. We will select a few tempos from the following: ♩= 60 ♩= 80 ♩= 100 ♩= 120 ♩= 140 ♩= 160
2:40 minute conducting demonstration of Vesuvius as outlined above.
